June meet, Hagerstown/Frederick

Post by DavidE on Thu Mar 27, 2008 7:13 pm

I’d like to throw a couple of ideas around. The first is the Frederick airport Open House on June 7. http://www.aopa.org/special/fly-in/index.html It’s not an air show, but a big fly in. Lots of new business jets and props will be there along with a big manufacturer’s tent. There was a corvette club on the ramp a couple of years ago, so I know they allow cars to participate. This is a big city sponsored event with maybe 5 thousand people walking around. It’s actually pretty cool.

The positives: great exposure for the club and on-site entertainment (food & drinks). Plus it’s right on I-70. Negatives: I think you’re supposed to stay put once you get parked on the ramp. Also, some people may want a more low key event.

The second is Antietam Battlefield park. http://www.nps.gov/anti/. It cost $4.00 to get in but there is a lot to see and do. June 14th is “Artillery Weekend” whatever the heck that is. It’s close to the river and there could be a nice cruise along the back roads if you wanted.

Both place are kid friendly and have some cool photo ops. Just my two cents. See ya Saturday.

Ya, I like those idea's, I didn't put up a pole yet, cause I didn't know what to put up, so once we get a couple more idea's I'll put up a pole.

July Meet, Hagerstown/Fred

Post by DavidE on Thu Apr 03, 2008 8:10 pm

Oops, my last post was for JUNE. I thought you were talking about having the meeting in June (doh!). Anyway...

The NOVA Mustang club is having their drag day at the Mason Dixon Dragway on the 26th. I think it's pretty expensive to race tho.

And Frederick has a baseball team that plays in a really nice stadium. And it's right off of I-70 & 270. They may let us have a promotion or a special parking area. http://www.frederickkeys.com/sked-promo.php

I'll look around to see if there's anything else car related happening out this way.

If any of the local guys knows how to get to these we can maybe look at swinging by as a club after dinner/park or whatever you guys decide on...

Frederick, MD Cruise the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month April through October from 6 pm until 10 pm. Cruise-ins are held in Frederick, MD at the Mr. Tire (was Donald B. Rice) parking lot over in the Fredericktowne Mall off Rte 40 (the Golden Mile). Cruise-Ins are open to anyone and any vehicle. If you have a car or vehicle that you love to show off, bring it to the Golden Gears Cruise-In...DJ, music, Dash Plaques (2nd Sat), 50/50 and food available. The Mid Maryland Ford Club (MMFC) is holding a cruise-in on the 3rd Saturday of the month at Fredericktowne Mall which is located on Rt 40 west, on the west side of Frederick. This Mall has various restaurants and stores within easy walking from the cruise-in site. It is on what locals call "The Golden Mile". Questions call Dave Phelps 301-570-2077 or email MMFC cruise-in the last Saturday of the month at Sam's Club Rt. 85 in Frederick. Proceeds to benefit the Children's Miracle Network. Visit the web site for more info. Click on Events.

Hagerstown, MD Cruise-in at the Valley Mall behind J.C. Penny's every Saturday night from April through October from 6 to 10 pm. Average 150 to 300 cars on nice nights. Some club activity here too (Mason-Dixon Corvette Club, Classic Car Group for Children Inc., etc...). Valley Mall is located just SW of Hagerstown off of I-81. Cruise in at the Long Meadow Shopping Center on Rt 60 at Eastern Blvd in Hagerstown MD from 5 pm to 9 pm the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. $2 per vehicle admission. DJ and music. Open to all vehicles. Call Dave at (301)766-7546 or Scott at (301)992-0290 for more information.

July we should do CJ's CA Day for our meet. It's a huge event and car show...FREE FOOD and it's just an overall good time. Plus you can buy stuff in the store and they give tours all day long there too.

Food for thought~

For July, please try to avoid a club event on the July 26 drag day event at Mason Dixon (NVMC).

Note in Carroll County, we have a large cruise-in EVERY Saturday. On the first and third Saturdays, it's the Jimmy Cone in Mt. Airy. On the second and fourth Saturdays, it's the Home Depot in Eldersburg. The latter might be more interesting as there are more places to eat (Mt. Airy has surprisingly little except fast food). I usually hit one of each every month of the car season.

Re: JULY Meet, Hagerstown/Frederick?

How about this - July 26th is the 'Northern Virginia Mustang Club Drag Day' at the Mason Dixon dragstrip. It's 60 miles west of Security Mall, straight down I-70.

Down the road from Mason Dixon (15 minute drive west) is a big car show in Williamsport. Why don't we meet at the dragstrip for a mid morning meeting, and then the people who want to stay and race can race, and the people who want to caravan over to the show, can leave around noon.
Here is a link to the car show, http://www.carshowlink.com/July.html ,scroll to the bottom of the page, it's called the Autorama Cruise in

Entry fee for spectaters at the drag strip is $10 I think, and the car show is $3 (and a can of tuna fish, it's for charity).

Also, the peeps heading back to Balt. can swing by the Mt. Airy and Eldersburg cruise ins later that day, as they are very close to I-70.
