Need help
Got a 2006 ford 500 and every once in awhile the engine will just rev up to about 4500 rpm. Normal driving 1500 -2000 It tends to happen when running air condition or heat . Any idea what it could be?

Re: Need help
Normally I would say the IAC valve but my moms cars had the exact same problem. Ford replaced the throttle body and it fixed it. Here`s the TSB.
12/16/10
3.0L - RPM FLUCTUATIONS WITH OR WITHOUT DTCS
FORD:
2005-2007 Five Hundred, Freestyle
MERCURY:
2005-2007 Montego
This article supersedes TSBs 06-21-1 and 09-24-12 to consolidate and update the Service Procedure.
ISSUE
Some 2005-2007 Freestyle, Five Hundred and Montego vehicles equipped with the 3.0L engine may exhibit one or more of the following symptoms:
drive-away hesitation, loss of RPM on deceleration, difficulty starting, and/or idle RPM less than desired. Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) may or may not be illuminated with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0506, P0505 or P061B. These conditions may also appear after battery disconnect, dead battery condition, or keep alive memory (KAM) reset.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Retrieve DTC's from the powertrain control module (PCM).
a. If no codes are present but the symptoms exist or P0505, P0506, P061B are present proceed to Step 2.
2. Using IDS monitor IACTRIM and IACKAM2 PIDs. The engine must be at operating temperature of 170 °F (77 °C).
3. Record and add the two values.
a. If the total value is 0.5 Lb/Min or greater proceed to Step 4.
b. If the total value is less than 0.5 Lb/Min do not continue with this article. Follow normal Workshop Manual (WSM) or Powertrain Controls/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) for normal diagnostics.
4. Remove the throttle body. Refer to WSM, Section 303-04.
5. Using Motorcraft(R) Choke and Linkage Cleaner or equivalent, spray the throttle body plate and bore. Using a small, soft, solvent resistant brush clean the edges of the throttle plate and the mating surface of the throttle bore to remove all sludge build up. Reapply choke and linkage cleaner. (Figures 1-2)
NOTE DO NOT SPRAY CLEANER DIRECTLY INTO THROTTLE PLATE PIVOT SHAFT.
6. Install the throttle body. Refer to WSM 303-04.
7. Using IDS clear codes and reset keep alive memory (KAM).

Re: Need help
Just a heads up but my old truck had the same problem. I did the IAC valve and cleaned and replaced a TB. After all that I replaced the MAF sensor it went away. It just a thought
