Plasti-Dipped My Wheels

Post by Lone Star on Mon Oct 24, 2011 12:58 pm

I have been wanting to see how my wheels would look all black for a while, I have seen several other Performace White 5.0's online with black RTR wheels and thought that it looked really sharp. I lreally like the look of my stock wheels and didn't want to Paint them and find out that I didn't like them after all the heavy prep that is typically required when doing so.

I have a friend who used Plasti-dip on his wheels about 6-8 months ago and still look like the day he did them. He told me that at any time if you dont like the look that you can just peel the plastic/rubber right off and have your stock looking rims they way they where without worry of ruined wheels.

$6 per spray paint can I bought 2 cans because my wheels are 19" and have lots of angles in the wheel design. One Can is probably good for all 4 wheels to have a solid 2 coats, I wanted 3 coats on each wheel and still have 80% of the 2nd can left.

Prep:

All I did was wipe the dust off my wheels (8 minutes per wheel) these wheels have a lot of angles, and pop the running pony center cap out.

I asked Bob to spray them for me (I don't trust myself with spray paint)

Before:

After:

Close up:

I am really happy with the way they turned out, and would recommend this product to anyone looking to do a inexpensive visual mod to their wheels.

I guess you were not as tired out as us . You left leg must feel alittle dull after all the clutch workout at those low speeds

I really like the wheels too, not too many mustangs I see have this particular wheel on it, its either the base wheel or the Brembo wheel package. I have seen more California Special wheels than the ones on my car.

That looks absolutely sinister Chris I think that car is actually a wrap which would be as expensive as a paint job to matte black a whole car but looks awesome!

Thanks Pete, Vicky, and Tyler for stopping bye today!

Be nice if the "stealth" wrap made it impossible to be picked up on radar.
