Need new tires

Post by svtwin73 on Sat Aug 13, 2011 10:06 pm

My rear Michelin Pilots are starting to chunk apart and I really don't need to spend 325 a tire for new ones. What is everyone running in a 275/35/20 or 275/40/20??

Yep, I would have to agree. I have had nothing but Nittos on my car. Very pleased. On dry and wet roads.

Nitto's are great for most driving conditions (except the snow) highly recommend them!

I've run the gauntlet with tires. On lower power levels, you can make due with less.
I have Falken 452's urrently. I would not recommend them to myself buy they would be fine for most.
If you drive it year round, the Nitto Invo's are a fantastic choice. I've used those and they held up very well on corners and in less savory driving conditions.
The 555R's are incredible for hooking on the street in warm weather. I love them on my rear.
I used the 555 up front but I believe Ed uses them on his rear as well.
My dad has Toyo T1R's on his corvette and they are perfectly capable in the summer but slip a bit with hard driving in the winter.

I had the INVO's on my V6 and that is what Ed is currently running (summer setup) like I said they were awesome and I would definitely buy them again when I need new tires, but in the snow, better off with winter wheels and a set of blizzaks.

Well the reason was the tire shop I go to was $850 for 2-275/35/20's and $45 a rim to balance. I could just replace what I have and get 4 new Nittos instead!

Anyone know a good reasonable installer?

BobT has a tire mounting machine and a balancer at his shop in Westminster.

I know you drive your car a lot, hell I have seen you a few times coming home from work Smile.

I have the 555r's on mine and love them, however I can not give experience on them in a lower profile larger rim like you have. different beast all together.

Also with how much you drive it, you might only get a 6 months to a year out of the 555r's... just something to think about...

I agree on the Nittos, the fronts still have good tread, I really only need the back

Does Bob's tire machine do 20" rims?

Have you looked at tirerack.com? they're relatively cheap for a set on there

Thats usually where I get them from, but I took a look at them yesterday and I'm going to hold off for a couple weeks. I did find a 15% off Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500's.....

Are you looking for an All Season or Summer Tire? I'll echo everyone else's sentiments here that the NT555's would be a great value for the money.

If Summer then I'd say also take a look at Yokohama S. drive -- could be a worthwhile tire to consider. If all season - General G-Max has been getting great reviews and not a bad price. Although, I haven't tried them myself yet. As for installer check out TireVan - mobile service that brings & installs tires with Hunter balancer whereever you are!

I had Sumotumos summer tires, I don't recommend those. These Pilots are good tires but I'm not driving the car much in the winter and not in the rain. My fronts are good, lots of tread. I want to get full use out of the fronts and need to replace the rear before I drive back to Detroit in Sept. I'm still looking at the Pilots now and when these wear out I'll stick summers back on
