4.10 or 3.73???

Post by mine1317 on Wed Jul 13, 2011 2:22 pm

I'm thinking about changing my gears to either a 3.73 or a 4.10. What do you guys prefer and where could I get them?

depends on the driving you do. If its a lot at 80+ then 3.73's

4.10s if its more stop and go.

Example at 80 in 3.73's you will be around 2800 with say a 26" tire

in 4.10 you will be 3100 or so

I (rather BobT) put 3.73s in my V6 with a positrac.

My highway speed is 80 miles before the RPM is so high that I feel uncomfortable maintaining the speed for too long, which is a good practical sustained top speed. A 4.10 would only piss me off on the highway due to the high rpm's.

For this reason, I would not go with a 4.10 for practicality reasons and the 3.73 has really improved the punch down low & into the mid-range, so is a great setup IMHO.

I got all my stuff through BobT and he did the install. Highly recommend Bob as he will ensure it is done right.

I had 4.10`s and switched out to 3.73`s. I would never switch back to the 4.10`s in my 09 GT. 1st was too low and 5th wasnt enough for me. Just my 2 cents.

I have 3.73's in the 5.0 and love it! When I had the v6 my plan was to get the 8.8 rear with 3.73's.

Get BobT to do the install! Only man I would trust with my rearend

I have the 4.10's, they are a little noisy, but I dont mind, if I had it to do over, I would go with changing over to an 8.8, word to the wise, dont upgrade the 7 inch rears gears, take it from some one that did, go ahead and get an 8.8, and I would split the difference and go with 3.90's.

As for installer, again, BobT, he did a great job on mine, and he is the only one I let work on my car besides myself.

i had the same dilemma. i have the 4.10s and they pull like a mofo! love em. but then again i dont drive on the highway much... but i agree with ed, just look for a used 8.8 rear already with 3.55s or 373s or 4.10s in them. it might cost less then an entire gear install too.
