complete rear swap 3.31 to 3.55

Post by zporta on Sun Jul 10, 2011 2:40 pm

So i finally got around to swapping my rear today. After the KB install i wanted a little more pull at the top of the gear so i was thinking of swapping to a 3.73 but then found a complete rear with 3.55's. The rear was mint with minimal surface rust. But i still primed and painted everything black.

primed

mountaineer diff cover modded to fit. (thanks for the write-up TOB)

fresh paint

stock rear

comparison

new rear installed

new cover

the new diff cover is a tight fit with the BMR panhard but there is about 1/4" maybe a little less of clearance. It took me about 3 1/2 hours on a lift taking my time and b/s ing with dave (daffy) and my dad while working. very happy with how clean my undercarriage looks now.

And now the car really pulls like a freight train with the KB on it. I was shocked at the difference b/w 3.31's and 3.55's. It just keeps pulling and pulling. Very happy with 3.55's and seems to be perfect for street driving.

If anyone is interested in a 8.8 with 3.31's let me know
