yea, now ive just got to shell out the bucks to put it all back together lol

but im one of those people that probably has more fun putting it together then actually driving it. its a 1000x easier when it on the stang like that. if i had to hang over a fender for hours and build the motor i probably wouldnt enjoy it as much.

Re: So the Maverick project is progressing

so yestedday at the yard i seen a 1996 Ford exploer v8 with GT-40 5.0 heads. these are the same heads 95 5.0 cobras had i believe

anyway, today I went back and got 'em

the guy didnt realize i was taking the pair and only charged my $40

it started like this...

and ended like this

ill get a pic of my 70 heads side by side with the 96 GT40s tomorrow. the valve size diffrence is pretty big. now i can cam and carb the hell out of the even more. and these things were in pretty much "like new" condition to say the least. now sluge build up inder the valve covers and no caked on carbon on the valves. im probably just going to run them as-is

and if anyone wants the upper intake, too bad. i used it as a jack stand lol

yea i made out pretty good theres about 3 more sets of GT40 P heads down there and 4 more GT40 intakes and plems

heres my heads

the 3 lines in the front mean its a GT40 head, 4 lines means GT40-P

you can easily see the valve size diffrence here. on the left are some vintage 1970's heads i was going to use and on the right are the GT40's

Re: So the Maverick project is progressing

had about 2 hours this afternoon to kill and put it to work on the maverick

I pulled out the Power steering linkage and gear box

and cleaned up and painted the manual steering set up thats going in

also my new lower controll arm/ball joint assemblies that will hopefully be crossed off the list tomorrow

as for why im getting rid of power steering, something the original owner paid extra for...

biggest factor was that i wanted to make things as mechanically simple as i could. the bare essentials. im also going for that clean look under the hood. belts and hoses all over the place are a real turn off for me. the 302 going in is going to have one belt spinning off 3 pullies. the crank, water pump and alternater. This also mean less paracitic drag on the engine and my HP to the wheels, not the P/S pump. also since the car isnt going to be a daily driver low speed parking lot menuevering isnt something im going to be breaking my back with everyday. If this was my daily driver i'd definaly be keeping the P/S

i probably lost a few lbs too Smile

so i ended up dropping out most the suspension today. im just gonna get the upper ball joints too. no reason not to since im this deep into it.

yup, thats the caliper tied up with an old plug wire Laughing

I had already dont all 4 shocks last summer

getting that lower ball joint out of the spindle was the most time consuming task of the day. i ended up unbolting the sipinle off the upper arm so i could take the whole assembly ou and get a good whack in on it

maybe one day i'll be getting the front up like that without the jack stands Cool Laughing
