Mod Bug - Opinions/Suggestions?!
Guess who caught the mod bug!
Here's the plan -
Now: I'm looking into switching out my mufflers right now... Probably for some Flowmaster A/T's or MAC Performance mufflers.
Summer: Either 4.10's or 3.73's (and Trac-Loc) in the back in conjunction with a SCT Tuner with some BamaChips tunes.
Flowmaster or Mac Performance on a S197 V6? I know this is opinion, so feel free to say it!
Flowmaster:
MAC:
4.10's or 3.73's with an automatic S197 V6? What are the revs for both @ 70 MPH? I'm know a couple people have the 4.0 with 4.10's. What about the 3.73's?
Thanks guys!

Re: Mod Bug - Opinions/Suggestions?!
Ed has the Mac mufflers and I think they sound awesome at idle and lower rpm ranges but sound kinda high pitched to me in the upper ranges. American Thunder is probably good but have never heard them in person. As far as gears it really depends on if you drive on the highway much i believe the 4.10's get worse gas mileage on the highway. But maybe Ed can chime in on this. I am personally going with the 3.73's and T-lok but mine is Manual trans.
Highly recommend the SCT custom Tuner from AM

I got a set of stainless magnaflows I can give you a good deal on. Personally I would go with a t-loc and 3.73`s.

Re: Mod Bug - Opinions/Suggestions?!
Hate to screw up a sail for you Bob, but Flows sound like crap on a V6.
Just remember one thing, there is no exhaust that will make a V6 sound like a V8, it aint happening, so you go with as close as you can get, I think I have that, but it also depends on how loud you want it, so it starts at
GT take offs, sound great on the V6, they have a growl, but they are fairly quiet, louder then your stock but still quiet
Mac, of course my favorite, and they are quite a bit louder then the GT's, but not so much as to wake up the cop's, unless your getting into it, then you'll know it, however they do drone inside the car
Last, Corsa's and Borla's, both sound good, both loud, both expensive.
Gears, I like my 4.11's but then I don't mind 3000 RPM at 70 MPH, Bob put it to me in a way I could understand, if you get the 3:73's you'll wish you had 4:10s when your racing someone light to light, if you get 4:10s you'll wish you had 3:73s when your on the highway, you have to decide which you would hate more, My decision was easy at that point.
One more thing, don't make the same mistake I did, get an 8.8, it wont cost you more than another $300 to do so, but it will be well worth it.

Re: Mod Bug - Opinions/Suggestions?!
Im glad Ed said something about those magnaflows because after looking at some youtube vids I agree 100% about sounding horrible on the 4.0
I have debated time and time again over whether to just do gears (3.73's and T-lok) for the 7.5 rear, but have come to the conclusion that the money is better spent on the 8.8 with the 3.73's from NTO. Between discussions with Ed and Bob I feel its just the better option for not too much more money.

Re: Mod Bug - Opinions/Suggestions?!
no matter what you get with a v6... it's going to sound higher pitched at the upper ranges. i've never heard flowmaster in person though...
magnaflows are going to sound pretty bad with a v6... this i know for a fact because i've watch a million videos on 4.0's with dual exhaust.
as for the 4.10's... i'm worried about accelerated engine wear. i was always told that cruising speed should be BELOW half of redline. Redline for me is 5800 so that puts my cruising speed @ 70 mph to be below ~2900. I feel like even 2500 is too high. all you mechanics out there... what do you say?
bob and ed... i see where your'e coming from with an 8.8... probably the best move. the 4.10's sound so tempting though!
and yes... i'm working on the SCT tuner. 380 bucks is a lot of money haha
bethel..... you crack me up hahahaha

I need to got to "Bob's Parts Wonderland" one of these days. Of course I may be divorced by the time I leave but hey.....It's the chance you gotta take.
BTW I just got a great deal on a set of Pypes Street Pro axle backs for when I finally get around to putting duals on.

Re: Mod Bug - Opinions/Suggestions?!
If your getting the SCT get it from American Muscle, add in our club discount of 5%, the deal is with AM, you get the tuner, and 3 custom Bama tunes tuned to your car, and lifetime Bama tunes, if you change something all you have to do is email Bama and they send you a new tune, great deal.
Oh no, I've said to much
