Cams for my 09

Post by BobT on Wed Feb 16, 2011 12:40 pm

Okay, So I picked up a set of Stage 2 Comp Cams and valve springs last night. (Thanks John!) I cant seem to find any tech articles on exactly whats required to do this job. Its a 2009 3v.

Fairly easy, but since you are changing springs, I would almost just take the entire head off. You can do them with the heads on and engine in car though. Front cover I take off just to make sure everything is lined up but you dont need to take the cover off. Just make sure you keep the chains lined up on the marks. About a 4-5 hour job at most.

Just an FYI, my next Saturday off is March 12. So stick to Sundays. But not this Sunday. It's Redneck Day at my place.

Will pointed out the exact tech articles I used. You CAN even do these with the heads in the car but will take closer to 12 hours with all those springs/retainers to deal with. Note you should think about getting the steel retainers from Comp #700-24. Comp seems to be out of them at this time, but I'll bet Lethal or Brenspeed keeps them handy: http://www.brenspeed.com/700-24.html

I spoke with Comp a few mins ago, They told me that since I only have 20k miles on my car it`ll be fine to run the stock retainers. They said that you should replace them since you already have them out and most cam installs are on engines with a lot more than 20k.
More pressure + worn retainers = Failblog.org
More pressure + 20k mile retainers + Bob = Happiness!

I plan to do the install on Monday!
