11.89 at 115, all motor baby!

Post by Boss281 on Mon Nov 15, 2010 10:12 pm

Finally got the '05 into the 11s at the SuperStallions drag rental event. I ran 12.01 at the previous drag rental, but knew the clutch had little left in it. JJ from Woodbine Motorsports suggested trailering the car to keep the drivetrain cool, so we did that and I pulled the time my first go at it: 11.89 at 115, 1.578 sixty foot. After that, the clutch bit the dust every time I tried to shift at high rpm--time to shell out some $$ for a heavy duty clutch and flywheel that will last a while.

According to S197forum.com, who tracks drag racing times and records for the platform, I have the third fastest NA S197 with stock heads and shortblock. Props to Woodbine for building my dream machine.

Gratz man!

What clutch combo you looking at?

I went Fidenza and Spec stage3+ with light pedal option... and I love the thing. It holds all my power, and feels like the stock pedal pressure. Had a lot of sorting out to do with the hydo TOB... but once it was done, it worked great.

Congrats man. Thats Freakin awsome on all motor.

I run a Fidanza Alluminum Flywheel and Spec stage 3 clutch. Both are awsome, its in my cobra. But I love em. Wish I could cut your 60 so I could be in the 10s.

Congrats, John!

+1 on a SPEC clutch too. It's all I could ever get to live in any of my cars.

I've been through two stock clutches and two Spec2+ clutches and flywheels. Stock works best for first 10 runs, then starts fading and losing ability to engage. Spec never worked right.

At my power level, a McLeod twin disk is a bit of overkill but that's what I'm going for. I'll have peace of mind and longevity...

Zach swears by Specs in our Foxes, but the 2+ has been a massive POS in the S197, plus tech support was absolute crap through both clutches. I've heard the 3+ is a much better clutch, but the support has turned me off from the company.
