Emmissions test

Post by Droptop306 on Fri Oct 01, 2010 2:50 pm

OK, here we go already. I just left the emissions station. My 08 GT got rejected by the OBD test. Does or has anyone had this issue. They gave me another month and told me to drive the car regularly and i should not have this problem. DO WHAT? I have the JLT intake with tuner running 93 octane, long tube headers with high flow cats and muffler deletes. I dont think the deletes would cause this. According to the literature it states that it could not read all the OBD sensors so rejects the test. Doesnt fail it but only rejects it. Can someone please help. I get frustrated over stupid crap like this.

Most race tunes run in OPEN loop. This turns off the o2 sensors.

Reload stock tune. and drive it for a week. then it will fire off the emissions run mode.

If that doesnt work your high flow cats are not lighting.

My 05 failed the first time I took it in. I thought I would be able to pass with out changing the tune back to stock. I removed the CAI and returned the stock program from my tuner drove around for about 50 - 60 miles and took it back in and it passed.

One of the guys at brenspeed told me that the tunes they have turn off one or two of the sensors. so when you go for the test they can not read anything. Brenspeed offered to write me a tune that would pass so I would not have to remove the CAI and return the stock program but I just decided to remove it and put the stock tune back in.

Pretty much what tt-05 said

What the sate requires is that all the OBD 2 monitors run and pass, and I believe MD requires all to have run and passed and I believe the state allows you to have 1 to possibley max two of the monitors to not have run, if your tune has shut down more than 1/2 monitors so cel won't come on, when they scan it for codes, the monitor will say, not passed, therfore your car is rejected at the emissions station, as others state , reload stock tune and give the car some drive time...........once two drive cycles are registered with a pass on the monitors, known as the obd 2 readiness monitors, then it will register pass, REadiness monitors include such things as O/2 SENSORS, CATALYST, EGR EVAP, ECT ECT....I can'r remember all of them but there are 8-10 iirc.

How does running the stock tune work with long tube headers though. I will get in touch with Justin at JPC Racing and see if there is anything that he can do. I dont even know if I have all the stock air intake parts. I will have to look.

Hermann from horspower by hermann tuned my car. And this something I asked him about. He told me if I every had to go through emissions he would set me up with a tune to help my car pass. Its good to be in St Mary's county where this is no emissions.

Justin should be able to give you tune to pass emissions. JJ at Woodbine created an emissions tune for me after I had the long tubes installed. Did not have to change it back to stock.

I've got all the stock intake parts if you need to use them. I had to put them back on and the stock tune when I did my emissions. Pain....

Do you have the long tube headers to Dan? Any problems with it when you went back to all stock

It's one of two problems. One, as stated above, is the 02 sensors are off. another problem is when the emission monitors FLAG itself is inadvertantly turned off in a custom tune. This happened to me. I failed the test, and it took JJ at Woodbine Motorsports a few minutes to realize that the base tune update recently provided by SCT had turned off the emission monitors, presumably for performance reasons. He uploaded a new tune, I drove 50 miles, went back to the emissions station and all was well.
