5.0 HO Restoration

Well, I have parked the stang for me and dad to do an engine restoration. The engine only has 66k miles, but 65,000 of those miles are from previous owners who never cleaned/maintenanced it. So far we've worked 3 long days on it, and have gotten pretty far. Fixed all the rust on the passenger side of the engine bay and painted all the front. We've repainted/ freshened up some parts, here are some pics..

Looks good keep up the good work bro and good luck with the project. i may end up buying another one myself to do a resto project on in the future. currently eyeing a red LX 5.0 5 speed up the street from me that hasnt moved in 2 years

Aaron - I encourage anyone to restore an old fox. As you had seen mine in the Gaitherburg Show, it took me and my dad 3 1/2 months of continuous work to get it to that condition on the exterior. In other words: Restorations are alot of fun.. once they're done. Send me some pics of that LX you're eyeballin

yea theyre fun i doubt i'll get it done that quickly lol. too damn busy. that LX belongs to a US marshal who is never home i'll catch him one of these days!

sorry "B" , now no offense and I give you an A for effort OP but with all that overspray on stuff, it does not look the best, you should of removed the harness and or the motor completely, expecially if you plan to show it, here is the 89 I just did to show you an example of removing the harness and after reinstall: but then again your finished product may prove me wrong

Sounds nice but we don't have an engine crane nor did I feel like taking the engine completely out as this is a budget car. I'm new to painting, but all the overspray on the wiring harnesses is purpousful, most of them are being repainted black anyways because they were discolored to gray, along with the brake lines. The engine bay on that 89' looks good, great job. I'll be sure to post pics tommorow to show you progress on the "overspray"

Been working hard this morning. Woke up at 7, started at 8, now taking a break at 2 p.m. Got alot of things done, but i'll let the pics talk for themselves. KEEP IN MIND: we've only done the passenger side, back and front of the engine bay, the driver side looks nasty still, so I cannot wait to dig into that hopefully tommorow.

looks like you are making good progress .....I've never been a fan of the chrome paint look, I've tended to use the Duplicolor "CAST COAT ALUMINUM" spray for a more natural look, but all that matters in the end is you like it, each mustang I have ever seen is a form of art work in it's own and defines it's artist, heck I've had people say when walking by my car and unbeknownst to them I was playing dumb as if I weren't the owner and I've heard people pick my ride apart and say they didn't like stuff on it, in the end what matters is I like it and love driving it

Haha, I thought I was the only ninja that did that! Indeed, I have heard comments that I didn't like to hear but hey, it's there opinion and I won't take criticism to heart Of course, i'm doing this engine to my own personal preferences, but I like hearing other peoples ideas to give me different options before I follow through with something. lol^^^^^^yeah I like to fly incognito too at the cruise inns and shows when I can get to them to see what people have to say, more often than not the comments are positive and the few that aren't are usually people that don't even have a ride to show, to each his own

I think that is awesome!!!!! A father/teenage son redoing a soon to be classic Stang on a low budget, but also making it look decent! Can't wait to see what all your hard work looks like in person.

My Dad and I never had anything to tinker around with and I just helped him with routine maintenance. I wouldn't mind being able to do this with my son in about 8-10 years

Haha, thanks man, it has been alot of fun so far. My dad has taught me alot along this journey! And when I say low budget, I mean I have $700 left to my name, and $400 of that is for insurance in June
