Naturally Aspirated S197 Shootout October 2010
Ford Mod Motor Madness: Naturally Aspirated S197 Mustang Showdown—Heads Up!
June 1, 2010
In cooperation with the Ram Racing Naturally Aspirated Shootout Racing Series, CJ Pony Parts and Woodbine Motorsports are pleased to present the first annual Heads-Up Naturally Aspirated S197 Mustang Showdown on October 30, 2010 at Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, Maryland. Developed exclusively for 2005 naturally aspirated mod motor Mustangs, this new event is meant to showcase all motor, heads-up Mustang racing at its finest.
The primary event of the day is the Ram Racing Naturally Aspirated Shootout Racing Series which features three naturally aspirated heads up classes (PRO, 10.5 and Drag Radial) and eight All Motor Index (AMI) classes from 9.5 seconds through 13.0 seconds, and is open to all makes and models. For S197 drivers that aren’t interested in the heads-up Naturally Aspirated S197 Mustang Showdown, participation in one of the AMI classes is suggested for those that like to dial in their numbers.
The all motor S197 Mustang Showdown will be run in conjunction with the Naturally Aspirated Shootout throughout the day. To add further excitement on the 30th, a third venue will showcase naturally aspirated late model Mopar Hemi vehicles. At the end of the overall competition, we hope to have a showdown between the Mopar and S197 Mustang winners to see who the Modern Muscle King of the Hill is! More as we know it!
To encourage participation across the 2005 mod motor S197 platforms, there will be 3 classes for the S197 Showdown: factory 4.6L shortblock, factory 5.0L shortblock and built mod motor 4.6L/5.0L/5.4L shortblocks.
Rules for the S197 participants are simple:
A tech inspection will ensure compliance with NHRA/IHRA rules. There will be 2 qualifying runs and elimination ladder. We will have a .500 PRO tree. The fee is $40 at the gate, and $10 for spectators and crew. Gates open at 8 AM. Trophies will be provided for the 3 class ladder winners, fastest NA S197 in each class, and the Modern Muscle King of the Hill.

Re: Naturally Aspirated S197 Shootout October 2010
Ed, the event is different than the Five Guys Racing event. Right now we're starting with one class, gauging what works and what doesn't, then expanding for a second event that expands on the concept a bit. We're also very sensitive to our hosts at Ram Racing, and don't want to flood their event with 40 cars across multiple classes the first time we partner with them. Sorry, I know that excludes many folks here on t he forum, but it's my intent to expand to others in the S197 platform, and then work back in time to other mod-motor vehicles.

Re: Naturally Aspirated S197 Shootout October 2010
We've modified the rules a bit to make sure 4.6l, 5.0l, and built modular motors (4.6, 5.0 or 5.4) are eligible. And if you don't have an S197, come race for money in the Index classes. Good air come October!
