Race Helmets??

Post by Silverstang on Thu Mar 11, 2010 1:21 pm

It looks like the stars are going to align and I will be able to attend a few track rentals so I plan to run my car a little more this season. Last year was my first time running my car and being a newby most of my runs were in the 14's and I did not need a helmet. As I got a little better I can now run in the mid to high 13's so I need a helmet. Were can I go locally and pic one up or do i have to order one from one of the internet retailers?

Any motorcycle store

However... You need to make sure that it is SNELL 2000+ certified. DOT doesnt mean crap to a NHRA sanctioned track.

Then its what you like... I use my ATV helmet...

My 06GT is all stock and I hope to attend the April17th track rental, will I need a helmet?

I have a Fulmer helmet for my dirtbike, but it's DOT. Don't see anything about "SNELL" on it...

If it's you're first time, I would say you won't need a helmet with a stock 06. Even still, they are pretty loose with the helmet requirement on the track rentals. I brought one and wore it a few times but would just run without it on sometimes too and no one would say anything.

When is the cutoff date for the track rental? I still have to get on it.. The helmet issue been lingering in my mind too, so sounds like for a first time n00b, probably not needed..

That's what I was thinking. The email I got from the northvirginiaclub said that most stock mustangs should be ok.

Vehicle Safety Information : Your vehicle must be up to the standards set by the NHRA (see the forums for the requirements). Most stock Mustangs will be ok with the safety equipment you have in the car (OEM). Vehicles running 12 seconds and faster, check the safety requirements out.

Its the tech guys who will throw you out not the track. The tech guys are hired hands to work, and its up to their discretion. I have seen everything from tech passing a bicycle helmet, to failing a Snell approved helmet that was 5 years old.

All tracks have helmet rental, however I prefer not to have used helmets near my face...
