Need recommendations on drag tires
I am looking for a set of DRs that would work decent on the street as well. I'd keep them on the car all the time. I keep normal tires on the fronts, right? all this is new to me so help a brother out

Re: Need recommendations on drag tires
I'll give you my opinion. Nittos are the most streetable with acceptable dragstrip performance. Next up would be Mickey Thompson Drag Radials or Drag Radial IIs. Surprising street manners and not too shabby at the strip.
The MTs will wear quicker than the Nittos, but both wear much quicker than typical street tires, especially if a daily driver.

Re: Need recommendations on drag tires
The Nittos will no doubt get you the most street miles, but the MTs will be better at the track as their softer compound will be the advantage over the longer lasting Nittos... Just something to think about... Yes you can keep the stock tires up front if you'd like. Unless you're trying to squeeze every last hundredth of a second off your time at the track, it's not much use on the street. Best thing to do is up the air pressure in the front tires at the track to reduce the rolling resistance.

Get the nitto's if your looking to get any type of milage out of them. But the M/T are a far superior tire for performance.

I would go with the nittos since youll probably be driving on the street more than the strip.

I got about 12K out of my Nittos and that was w/ a lot of drag racing. They will suit your needs just fine.5spd07gt wrote:thanks for the info. wont be a daily driver so not a concern there. the nittos are suppose to get around 15k miles

Re: Need recommendations on drag tires
Don't get the NITTOs, all of us with 03 to 04 cobra's consider them IRS breakers. Get yourself a pair of wheels just for the track and put a set of M/T E/T street on them. Plus you don't want to get caught in the rain with D/Rs. By the way this is a question you should have posted on MACA. No offense to your buddies but they don't really know much about IRS that are in the cobra's.
By the way the reason the Nittos are bad is because of wheel hop. The same wheel hop you get with the street tires.

Re: Need recommendations on drag tires
The MT's will hook better, but I love my Nittos on the street...
They hook almost all of my power in second on the street.
If you get the MT's better look at upgrading your halfshafts if you plan on making more power. Those MT's are sticky and will hold all the power you have and more. It will find the weakest link, and that would be the halfshafts.

Re: Need recommendations on drag tires
No the MTs will actually be better because they will not induce wheel hop. The Nittos are notorious for breaking halfshafts. A good example of what to do is Venimous. He runs M/T E/T Streets with stock half shafts. And runs low 11's. Nittos are good as in there street tire but the D/Rs are straight garbage that will never see the rear of my car.

Re: Need recommendations on drag tires
Well when it comes to your car you might know more but when it comes to the Termi's I am going to stick with MACA. Because the core of the group has been messing with these cars since day one. So other words there usually is someone in the club who has been there done that. Plus I am going on info that is tried and proven. Oh and if I was to keep drag racing I would go with a SRA and swap out this IRS. Because even level 5 half shafts break easilly. And it is always wheel hop that does it. And if you want to see what I am talkiing about come on down to MIR next saturday 9 am to 2pm we will be having a track rental and you are welcome to come and see what our club doesn't know anything about. Matter of fact walk around and see how many people do not run Nitto D/Rs.
