Guage install on 08 GT

Post by Droptop306 on Sat Mar 28, 2009 9:22 am

Alright all the hardware is installed into the car. I am having an issue with wiring. I dont understand schematics. Can anyone tell me which wire i tap the red one and white one to. I know the white one goes to the dimmer switch but dont know which color wire/stripe I tap to. Also the red being swithced power, which one does that go to. If someone that has these could pop out the headlight switch and look I would appreciate it. I would love to fire these up. I will also post a self explaining instruction sheet (for the newbies like me) on how to do this and save a ton of money. Thanks alot.

Alright almost done, I found the wire. It seems that no matter what year from 05-08 mustang it is the second pin on the headlight harness, one next to the black wire. I will have a full instruction coming soon so that the newbies have this down without question.

alright, now i am frustrated. I have the gauges wired the way they are supposed to be but none of them are moving when the engine starts. They just light up. These are electronic cobalts. Any words of wisdom

I used pin 13 in the fuse box to create a circuit to the gauges which shows as a suitable switched 12v power source. I still have nothing but pretty lights 3 days and getting frustrated, might of been worth the 500.00 to have these put in by a shop

Well since we can't see the instructions or a schematic of your car, it's really hard to say over the net. Generally, wiring after market gauges is not very hard.

They wanted 500 bux to install some gauges. What shop was that? Are these going to work w/ your existing gauges or take the place of? How many and what gauges do you have?

These are the cobalt electric boost, oil, and fuel gauges. I just hooked them up to a constant power source and they all turned back to 0. I must not be getting a switched power source in the fuse box. What would I use in the fuse box for a switched power. I have the 08 mustang

Well, they each have to be powered by a sending unit. A mechanical boost gauge would have been far easier to install. How does it electrically read engine vacuum. I assume it's a fuel pressure gauge not a tank gauge correct?

Can you go to Autometers website and put links here to what you bought.

Are they short sweep or full sweep gauges. I'm looking on their site now.

I have the autometer 6153 oil, 6163 fuel, 6159 boost. I am running the fuel off of a metco adaptor that allows factory and autometer to be ran. I am running a t to adapt the autometer and stock oil pressure gauge. When i hooked them to a constant 12 volt they moved to zero, they were all pegged out.

So when you start the car, what happens. All of the senders for each gauge are istalled correct?

I do believe so. When I start the car the gauges do nothing.

Is this the correct wires for your boost gauge

What Are These Colored Wires On My Full Sweep Electric Boost/Vac Gauge For?

• Red = key on power supply. *Must stay powered on during cranking of
starter. Failure to do so may cause mis-calibration of gauge

• Black = common chassis ground

• White (Cobalt, C2, Lunar, & NV series only) = dash lighting power

• Gray, Purple, & Black = communication between sender and gauge
