Engine Build documented...

Post by TT_05_Stang on Fri Mar 06, 2009 8:42 pm

Ok so I know I promised a few of you that I would have you over to check out the engine build... well this is the next best thing...

First start with a nice clean block...

Install the TOP main bearings

Use some assembly Lube

Install the crank

Install the thrust bearing

Slide it around till its flush with the block

Install #5 main cap bearing

Make sure you have the arrows to the front of the motor

Install the cap, and tap it down with a rubber mallet

#4 - #1 mains have regular bearings without thrust spacers. You can see how the grouve in the main cap matches with the raised side of the bearing

Mains installed and tourqued

Pistons getting ready to be installed

Using my ring compressor to compress the rings into the ringlands so it can be installed into the cylendar

Rotate the crank to its lowest position when installing the pistons so you do not hit the crank or ruin a bearing. Line it up and with a swift shove shove the piston in.

Install the cap and tighten slightly

Had the bottom end rebuilt in 06, compression was good so didnt touch the top end, recent oil burning had me re check compression, 1 low cylinder had me thinking about it but its running good and not smokin, to use Bernies qoute...."fill her up and let it burn..." or something along does lines........

Nice, Will! Makes me wish I had more money and build some monster of a motor! Hopefully I can do something along those lines for my kit car near or after I retire...OMG that's too far away

Alright so I have not given too many updates... well today I had a little bit of time to get some stuff done.

I stripped the stock heads, took the lifters, followers, VCT control sensors, and all the other hardware that I needed to transfer to the new race heads.

Now all I need is for the new cams to show up. I sent some "special" specs in... so we will see how these cams work.

Stock: 432”/ 435” Duration at 50: 175”/193”
custom... 497"/518"... with a little bit of pushrod LSA...

Here are some pics...
