I know its two different motors but Ed and I didnt have to remove anything to get is stock headers out. They just came out the bottom, behind the wheels. and your gonna need to upgrade your tune.

Stock headers will come out fairly easy. You need to twist them as they come out the bottom of the car. Driver side is a PITA because of the steering shaft.

Your Long tubes are another PITA to install. You will need to unbolt the motor mounts and jack the motor up about 4 inches. This will allow you to rotate them into place. You will need to be on a lift because of the angle that the headers need to come up from below the car. Jackstands will not work. #2 and #6 exhaust ports are bitches. The motor mount give you absolutely no room to turn with a wrench. Its one tooth at a time on a 12 point box wrench. I would suggest stage5 4.6 modular motor stainless locking header bolt kit. Stock bolts will do fine but they tend to not be finger tightening freindly. And when dealing with headers, especialy long tubes, its nice to have new easy threading bolts.

As for the tune, it is not necessary, for it to run right. Anything after the engine really doesnt effect air fuel or spark. The only issue that could happen is that the o2 sensors do not get enough heat to light, or get the proper reading. However I have not seen anyone have issues with the LT headers, and extentions.

Re: headers question

Post by VegasGT on Sat Mar 07, 2009 9:47 pm

soo i didnt get the headers on. i got to the shop at 10 (thinking thats when they opened but they actually open at 9 and there was a line waiting at 830, the good weather i guess) so i cleaned the car till 1230 and since i still hadnt gotten a lift i just installed my hood pins and called it a day.

On a side note tho a guy there told me about this burger king in manassas where its like a car show every weekend and i just got back from and it was really cool lotta people there ,bout 10-15 stangs/cobras and 20-25 mixed brand. I think it probably started as a streetrace meet up spot tho cause i went with my buddy whos got a black saleen and at least 6 young guys tried to get us to follow them to some "safe" race spot, buuut he and i both like our cars/license/freedom so we passed but it was pretty cool
