Most likely the trust spacing was not set properly on the converter, and when the brakes were applied, the converter pushed up against the flex plate, and ballooned... However... thats just my guess without seeing the parts...

Everybody ready for a dyno day????? To find out how much horsepower we can break...I mean how much brake horsepower our cars make?
