CARNAGE- Lots of pics, and more to come

Post by TT_05_Stang on Thu Dec 27, 2007 9:11 pm

Here are a few pics of taking the old engine out, and soon more carnage pics of inside. I didnt get around to dropping the pan because I needed some long metric bolts for the engine stand to bolt up. My thumb had a fight with a wrench and a bolt... lets just say the thumb didnt win. Anyways I tookj a ton of pics for documenting the build, and also wanted to make sure I can look at a pic just in case I forget where something went Smile. I figured I'de share.

Need to talk to Jim at TurboHorsepower... the DP is too close, and it burnt the valve covers.

Some carnage Smile

And the thumb...

Tomorrow I will have the pan off and start taking things apart to see what failed... I know its the rod, but wanted to make sure nothing else could have caused the failure.

New shortblock should be here next week.

Question: The Hanes manual says I need to take the cams and cam sprokets off to take the heads off. The Head bolts are accessable without taking the cams off. I am asking because I dont have the sproket tool that keeps it locked to take the end bolt off. I am sure I could make one... Also I dont have the cam installation tool from ford. They wanted something like 400 for it...

Next thing would be to take the heads to get them checked...

Twin turbos... and too much power on the stock rods.

472 RWHP and 451 RWTQ on a mustang dyno which would come to over 500+ on a non loading dyno.

No detonation found... like pitting of the piston face, or silver specs on the porcelin. So it was just a weak rod.

The new Forged rods are 3 times as thick as these tiney powdered rods for gives us...

I've read where any more than 425+/- RWHP with stock internals and it's only a matter of time. It's a shame because these cars can make some serious power with F/I!!!!! Saleen and Roush both have a 600+ HP car with different internals!
I will make sure to upgrade the internals if/when I do my power adder(many years down the road).
