Throttle body and spacer questions
Ok so now ive looked into what else i can do on the power side of my car without going into big $$$$. My question is this, how does the aftermarket throttle body work better than stock? And what is the purpose of the spacer?

Re: Throttle body and spacer questions
Snake Oil
The spacer is supposed to do two things.
1. is supposed to not transfer heat between the TB and the intake. However ours is composite, so no benifit there.
2. Most spacers will have some BS swirl cutt into it, to supposidly smoothen out the airflow.
Both are totally snake oil...
Now the the TB.
Larger TB is benifitial to NA engine and Supercharged engines because the engine is a vacuum. If you put a restriction prior to the vacuum, you loose density. Turbo cars can run much smaller TB without seeing any drop in power due to it compressing the air prior to the TB. With that said you will NEVER see the gains that the manufacturer advertises. On the GT's with the larger 60mm aftermarket TB's expect 6-10 rwhp. I have not seen any tests run on the v6's. Although with TB's running in the 300-400 range you are very close to a ZEX system and an etra 100rwhp rather than 6-10rwhp...

Re: Throttle body and spacer questions
Thanks will. So basicly your saying if just want a little extra power go with just an aftermarket TB.
One more question. For the rear end, is it better to swap for an 8.8, or just keep the 7.5 in and get a posi with gears?

Re: Throttle body and spacer questions
Depends on your power level. the 7.5 will be fine to about 400rwhp. the main issue is at that power level you will be spinning one tire, and burning your open diff up...
If it were me I would find a junkyard s197 GT rear end. Should be able to find them for under 300.
The 8.8 with a stock diff will be good to 600rwhp. Anything more than that and you will burn the clutch pack up in it. With an aftermarket diff 1000rwhp is pretty common. Stock axles are 31 spline as well, so you wont need to upgrade them either.
As with anything though, find your goal. If your not trying for 400rwhp stick with the 7.5. I am not sure if anyone makes a posi diff for the 7.5. Possibly some older rangers would have a posi.

Re: Throttle body and spacer questions
i highly doubt you will need a 8.8 anytime soon...keep the 7.5 if you break it go get a 8.8 or 9....
will hit spacer dead on but some people like them...idk i personal find theres no point...
you will notice a difference the second you put 4.10 and posi in...will be the biggest difference youve noticed out of any of your mods...also look in to underdrive pulleys they make a nice cheap mod

Re: Throttle body and spacer questions
The suggestions above are correct Alex. Save your money on the TB. If you want cheap power put her on the bottle and get a zex system.

Re: Throttle body and spacer questions
thats the thing, i want cheap power without spray. Im not looking to take it to the track all the time. I just wanna give it the most without a supercharger or turbo. Hell i might just save up for the heads and cams from supersix
