New pads/rotors for the Pilot...
The 03 Honda-Pilot needs new pads/rotors up front and I am thinking I will try to DIY...
I have a DIY write-up from a Honda site and with some knowledge G threw at me last go around i hope to hit this up soon. Looks I will need to get a compression tool for the calibers, an Impact screwdriver for some rotor retaining screws and a bleeder kit.
The write-up states the bolts may be a PITA to remove but the worst may be the 2 screws that may be rusted on, hence the impact screwdriver. It goes into bleeding the brakes so as not to push the nasty fluid back into the system. Dont have a clear idea of where the bleed valves are so hope to get a diagram of that soon. Now I gotta price the pads/rotors and see if I will be saving much trying it myself, wife gets scared when I open my very limited tool box : )

Re: New pads/rotors for the Pilot...
If you want to get new fluid in your brake system just break open the bleeder and pump the brakes while someone else adds fluid to the resevior. A bleeder kit isnt needed.

Re: New pads/rotors for the Pilot...
on-line shop: pads/rotors + shipping =$300
local dealer: pads/rotors = $355
local dealer: pads/rotors turned = $300
pads/rotors replaced = $450 (?)
thought the savings would be more than $100-150, quess its about feeling better about a DIY project....

Re: New pads/rotors for the Pilot...
If your going for dealer parts your not going to see much of a difference...
Autozone and Advance has premium rotors for your pilot at 49.99 a piece and 39.00 for pads.
that puts you at 139.00 for parts + tax, no shipping.
And if you have someone in the mechanic business you are friends with he can usually get 20-40% off listed prices, and 10-20% off on dealer items.

Juan, spend the extra and buy dealer parts. That's what we use and NEVER have any problems. Remember, you get what you pay for.

Re: New pads/rotors for the Pilot...
finally got to mess with the Pilot today and replaced the rotors and pads up front, pretty straight forward even for the braindead like me : )
I wanted to try it to learn, I am glad I did but it seems like its always the small stuff that are a PITA. 1 of the 4 screws that hold the rotors in place was striped so it slowed me down. Went back to the store to pick up an extractor kit to remove the screw. When I got back I removed the one rotor using the 12mm nut location to push the rotor off, suggested if the rotor was rusted on or a PITA to remove. It popped off and I figured I would try to loosen the other rotor before trying to extract the screw, oops, screw head flew off from the pressure : )
Long story put I got the rotors/pads on and the truck and it seems to ride smoother according to the BOSS so its all good!!!!

Got Duralast ceramic pads and rotors at Autozone for $160, we shall see how they compare to the OEM stuff...
