Swapping driveshaft

Post by pikuoff on Sat Oct 04, 2008 5:20 pm

Since there was some complaining about lack of tech talk, I will move my posting over to here.

Any advice on getting the 4 12mm 12pt driveshaft bolts loose other than beef up? I thought the header to midpipe bolts were tough when I did my exhaust but these suck. Probably because the lack of space and the interlocking seems to not be enough torque. The bigger wrench is just bending and it is a good Craftsman wrench. I tried some PB Blaster but still no luck. Any more advice????? If you're close by and think you can help, I'm all for it...especially if you take payment in the form of beer...

I might take you up on that. I am going to try again in the morning and I will let you know if the PB Blaster soaking overnight helps. Is it bad if I leave my car up on jackstands for several days or anything? If I can't get it tomorrow, would it be easier if I brought it your way or just leave it up on the jackstands and have you swing by my place?

Leaving it on stands won't hurt anything. If you want to run by my shop in G-burg one day this week it will only take about a 1/2 hour to do.

Will - I won't be around much today b/c of football...hence the question about leaving it up on jackstands for a few days. If I get back at a decent time, I'll give you a shout.

Bernie - Where is your shop and how late are you there? I don't usually get home til 530 or so during the week.

Big thanks to Will for stopping by and showing me how this was done today. I owe ya!

Thanks Bernie for offering to take care of it and the suggestions!

This was so simple to do (I think I could knock it out real quick if I had to do it again) and I definitely feel a difference in the butt dyno. It's like it added some throttle response and the pedal feels lighter when getting on it...kind of hard to explain I reckon. Rubber mallets are handy tools Smile

Jeez why is there like 100 cops on 97 at 10pm at night... I had to do 35 all the way...

NP bro, thanks for the beer!!! and sorry for the little leak that Tank sprung... He is getting me back right now for making him sit for so long. He is flying around the house like a tornado...

I agree with Laura, you and your girlfriend are good people!!! Thanks for being so hospitable and letting us 3 crash and watch the game.

Cops around there suck!

No worries about the "leak". It happens.

It was great meeting the 3 of you and yall are welcome to come hang out anytime. We could always do a football party there or chill at a bar or something. I'm always game...if I'm around...
