08 Mustang GT exhaust
I am wanting to change my exhaust. Need some input from you guys. I just bought a new Bassani 46053 X-pipe that allows you to change just the delete tube or High flow cats. But now I am told that I should use long tube headers instead of tuned ones. I dont believe that this x pipe will work. If I go long tube which is the better way to go ceramic or stainless. I also am wondering is there a x pipe that works the same as the 46053 or is this something that I have to keep dropping for emissions. I hate to run high flows all the time takes from the growl. Let me know
Re: 08 Mustang GT exhaust
I went from BBK shorty headers, bassani catted xpipe, and mac muffler to JBA titanium coated longtubes, JBA offroad h-pipe, and mac muffler. I got a better growl and 25 hp as measured on a before and after dyno. It passed emissions fine.
The xpipe you have now will NOT work with longtube headers unless you have them cut by a muffler shop. Also, an xpipe on the s197 platforms will give you more of a raspy sound compared to an h-pipe, although probably a extra horsepower or two or three. You have decide.
Stainless are cheaper, but ceramic coatings will keep the heat down.

Re: 08 Mustang GT exhaust
I was told by bassani that the ceramic coating is really only good for the shorty/equal legnth headers due to the heat. That the long tube headers dont need it due to passing the heat down the long tube and they dont get nearly as hot. I want to keep the bassani mufflers, but want to add the loud growl. I have the bassani 46053 now which is nice because you only have to change the delete tube for the high flow cat for emmissiions. Maybe I will have them just cut mine. when I get the long tube. I was also wondering does it matter if I have the x pipe on before I install the diablo tuner. I bought the tuner and the jlt set up and was told that I needed the tuner for the x pipe. I want to install the Cai and tuner but dont know if i will have time to install the x pipe. Just dont want to make a mistake. I would think that the x pipe would not matter
Re: 08 Mustang GT exhaust
Regarding adjusting tunes, it all comes down to airflow and fuel. On normally aspirated S197 cars, adjusting for fuel/air is only really necessary when you add a cold air kit, aftermarket throttle body or cmdp plates. Despite what some folks claim, changes in the exhaust setup don't usually affect air/fuel enough to require tune changes, but a tuning shop MAY have to adjust for o2 sensor issues (as happened to me).
I don't want to challenge Bassani but I completely disagree with their assessment regarding heat and longtube headers. Do a little research and draw your own conclusions.
One last thing. Xpipes and hpipes have distinctive differences in tone, and having cats or not affects it. When I first added the BBK shorties, Bassani xpipes and Mac mufflers, I did NOT have the cats installed and it sounded awful high pitched. When the cats were swapped in, the tone was wonderfully mellow and deep:

Re: 08 Mustang GT exhaust
So you are running the bassani x pipe with cats on the u tube clip. I was told that I would just have to replug the predator back in when I install the x pipe and shut off the rear o2 sensors if I run the straight pipe. R u still running shorty headers or long tube. I like the ceramic as well plus they look better for the shows

Now I had a Predator before getting the XCAL, and I swear it would NOT allow me to adjust the 02 sensors. Maybe they've updated the software to allow that now. Hmmm...
In the YouTube clip I'm running BBK shorties, Bassani CATTED xpipe and Mac mufflers.
I've now switched out to JBA coated longtube headers, JBA offroad h-pipe and the same Mac mufflers. I had a dyno tune before and after and I GAINED 25 horsepower at the wheels and 24 ftlbs of torque with the longtubes. The sound is different but very old school for sure. Sorry, I don't have a clip.

Alright just got the quote from Jpc for ceramic Jba long tubes, and catted h pipe WOW. 2645.00 installed. My jaw hit the floor. Think I will install the x pipe I have now myself with the stock headers until I can round up that kind of money.
Re: 08 Mustang GT exhaust
BS!!! Headers+catted h-pipe are $950 shipped from any sponsoring vendor over at modularfords.com (join up, leave message in 2005 tech section about "best deal on JBA headers and h-pipe" and a sponsor should chime in). My titanium coated longtubes and uncatted h-pipe were $750 shipped.
Call JJ at Woodbine Motorsports and he should be able to install everything for 5 hours labor (410-259-8737). Tell him John White sent you.
JPC's quote is way high. We're just talking headers, and installation, right? Nothing else getting done?

Re: 08 Mustang GT exhaust
Ed, do you mean the muffler? Assuming the hangers are the same, I guess it wouldn't hurt to test fit it. But why not check out http://www.ninosport.com/Mustang/2005-07-Mustang-V6-Dual-Exit-Exhaust for some ideas?

Re: 08 Mustang GT exhaust
Ya, I want to stick with the MAC because it has the best sound for a V6, but I don't want that stupid 1 into 2 crap, Mite as well leave the single, MAC has a dual kit, I didn't see it listed in that link, but at the same time, I'm way short in the funds department, and I cant spend allot, the wheels and tires have me well spent out, I'm going to bid on a pair of MAC axle backs on ebay, and I know the mufflers are the same, I will need the hangers for the left side though, and if I get them them I will need to get the stuff that goes between the cats and the mufflers

its the 4th one down, and it says its for either V8 or V6
