Gears

Post by wecircletheproblem on Sun Oct 05, 2008 4:15 pm

So my 68 has a 8 inch rear with what im guessing 2.73 gears I want to put new gears in for faster accel...now from what Ive learned from my 04 is put 4.10s in a auto but I think 4.10 might be a little large for a c4 w/o AOD...

what would you guys suggest?

I dont drive on the highway to much and I dont drag race regularly so I just want gears that will be good for driving around town and that have a little ass to them when needed ;)

Well the 9" IIRC doesnt come in a 4.10:1 ratio. I believe it will come in a 4.11:1. As far what will work for you, it also depends on the tire height you are running now.

For starters a 3.70:1 to a 4.11:1 would be a good choice. I would think however you would get more out of a higher stall and say a 3.50:1 ring gear. Just my .02

That will all depend on your goals as well. If you want to hook up or fry the tires off. With a 3.50:1 rear, and say a 26" tire I would go with a 2800+ stall. However if I were you I would call up a tranny company like TCI and see what they would suggest. You can match your converter with your cam, so you get the best results.

once again another wall...I dont know what cam but I think I figured out a way to figure it out...judging off the fact I have a edelbrock carb, and a edelbrock intake so Im guessing that the cam came in a package deal that edelbrock sells...

I need to look into it cause I dont really want to go through pulling out the cam to figure out what it is :/

how much time do you think it would take to rip out the cam, figure out what cam it is, and replace it.

its about a two hour job to take the intake, accessories, timeing cover, valve covers, and loosen rocker arms.

Sure... I can lend a hand. Just have to figure out a time when we both have free time.
